Pontianak (ftik.iainptk.ac.id) – Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris menggandeng American Corner (Amcor) Universitas Tanjungpura, dan Excellence English Studio pada kegiatan webinar kemarin (Selasa, 25/08). Webinar ini bertajuk “Kupas Tuntas Beasiswa S2 dan S3 Luar Negeri (AS, Australia, dan Inggris). Dan menghadirkan pembicara yang berkompeten di bidangnya. Diantaranya, Yauma Yulida Hasanah, Awardee Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS) yang tengah menyelesaikan Master of TESOL University of Melbourne. Dedi Irwan, Ph.D., Dosen IKIP PGRI Pontianak yang juga alumnus Ph.D Program, School of Education, University of Leicester, United Kingdom. Yusawinur Barella, M.Pd, Koordinator American Corner, UNTAN, serta Elisa Yuzar, Founder Excellence English Studio.
Mewakili Dekan FTIK, Dr. Yapandi Ramli, M. Pd selaku Wakil Dekan Bidang Akademik dan Pengembangan Lembaga mengungkapkan bahwa kegiatan ini dapat membangun motivasi masyarakat. Khususnya yang ingin melanjutkan studi ke luar negeri. “Di kalangan masyarakat ada pandangan umum soal kesukaran kuliah di luar negeri. Seperti kemampuan bahasa asing, biaya hidup, maupun kemampuan akademik dari scholarship hunter itu sendiri. Karenanya diharapkan dari kegiatan ini motivasi akademis semakin meningkat,” ujarnya.
Sebagai narasumber pertama, Yauma Yulida Hasanah mengungkapkan banyak pengalaman unik saat mengenyam pendidikan di Australia. “Perbedaan budaya, seperti halnya budaya pembelajaran memberikan kesan yang dapat membuka pikiran untuk berkembang lebih baik. Meskipun demikian, untuk meraihnya diperlukan suatu cara pandang yang positif, tidak perlu mengecilkan diri, dan posisikan niat belajar sebagai passion dengan diiringi doa yang kuat, maka hasil baik akan berpihak,” jelasnya.
Sementara itu, pengalaman positif lain juga dikemukakan oleh Dedi Irwan. Dalam kesempatan tersebut, Dedi mengungkap keterkaitan antara pasar dan kesempatan belajar, pemasaran diri untuk kelayakan penerimaan beasiswa luar negeri. Tentu saja, persiapan diri merupakan kunci utama dalam keberhasilan studi maupun raihan scholarship awards.
“Saat mengajukan tesis di Yogyakarta, saya tidak segan untuk meminta arahan dari pembimbing untuk sekaligus mengonsep proposal beasiswa di luar negeri. Artinya butuh juga suatu strategi dan peta konsepuntuk mempersiapkan beasiswa luar negeri,” cerita Dedi.
Kemudian, Yusawinur Barella selaku Koordinator American Corner UNTAN menyampaikan kesempatan akademisi bahkan profesional di Indonesia sangat besar jika ingin mengenyam pendidikan di Amerika Serikat.
“Sangat banyak jalur yang dapat dimanfaatkan, dari program prestisius Fullbright Scholarship for Indonesia, maupun jalur Fellowship seperti Humphrey, Fullbright FLTA, US-Asean Scholar, dan lain sebagainya. Adapun jenjang yang ditawarkan, mulai dari Undergraduate hingga Doctoral Degree, atau hanya sekedar shortcourse selama 6 bulan”.
Sebagai narasumber terakhir, Elisa Yuzar membagikan pengalaman persiapan kebahasaan sebagai syarat utama menuntut ilmu di luar negeri. Terutama kemampuan bahasa Inggris. “Pada dasarnya memang tidak semua beasiswa menempatkan The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) sebagai pertimbangan utama keberhasilan meraih beasiswa. Namun setidaknya kemampuan listening, reading, writing, dan speaking merupakan komponen yang tidak dapat dielakkan”, paparnya.
Dalam persiapan tersebut, Elisa juga menyebut bahwa tidak secara khusus mengikuti kursus resmi bahasa inggris, tetapi lebih mencari partner untuk melatih kemampuan bahasa tersebut. Ternyata hal tersebut belum lah cukup, setiap bagian bahasa memiliki treatment yang berbeda dan harus jeli menyikapinya.
Webinar ini selain memanfaatkan media Zoom, juga memanfaatkan Youtube Live sehingga keterjangkauan peserta dapat lebih maksimal. Diwawancarai secara terpisah, Kaprodi Tadris Bahasa Inggris, Sulaiman, M.Pd. berharap kerja sama ini tidak hanya terhenti pada webinar ini.
“Semoga ke depan kita dapat menjalin kerja sama seperti pelatihan-pelatihan, softskill, maupun kegiatan bermanfaat lain. Sehingga eksistensi kita sebagai pemangku amanah Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi dapat dirasakan oleh masyarakat luas,” harapnya.
